Since I am on a social media and fashion tangent here is yet another article from Mashable on 5 Ways Social Media Changed Fashion in 2009. The biggest question I have about their list is the creation of niche communities — isn’t fashion already a niche community reserved for the elite? When I talk about the fashion community, I mean  high-fashion and big-label designers. Considering the rest of the article, one of my favorite advances is user-generated content on Websites like Burberry’s Art of the Trench where visitors contribute their own pictures of people wearing the classic trench.

A lot of people argue that fashion is superficial, a lot of people in the newsroom argue that fashion isn’t news. I disagree. Fashion is art. Fashion is news. Finally, one of the biggest industries in the world is catching on to the advantages of social media. Once considered a meeting place for the high-fashion elite, runways are making it on to Twitter and Facebook. Consider the impact the death of Alexander McQueen had across the Internet world? Mashable has an article on How the Fashion Industry is Embracing Social Media.

One of my favorite paper animations using the pages of the book “Going West.” I will somehow tie it into the future of journalism in my upcoming posts.
